The artist was born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, where she graduated from college with a degree in Psychology. She started painting at the age of four insisting constantly that her mother act as model laying the foundations for her body of work. Art has been her compulsion and driving force throughout her life and most of her works reflect an obsession with the self as the focus of the individual's karmic journey. During the late 80s and 90s she showed in numerous art exhibitions, mostly group shows but also two successful solo exhibitions ? ?Gods, Angels and self-delusion? and ?Fallen Gods?. Her more recent work has taken a more surrealist turn with a fauvist eye for color, but still the deep introspection into the ego can clearly be seen in these works. Other strong influences in her work is the recurring need for pattern which shows clearly her love for her African roots and a deeper spiritual side.
In ?Gods, Angels and self-delusion? she tackles the complexities of romantic relationships, categorizing them into three phases. Phase One ? ?The God reflected in my eyes?, Phase Two ? ?The realist at the breakfast table? and Phase Three ? ?Where the f**k did you come from and what do you want?. The artist intends to expand this series at a later stage with Phase Four: ?Marriages are held together by duct tape and emotional investment?
Her series ?Fallen Gods? reflect the violence that erupted during the prelude to the first democratic elections in South Africa (1994). These works include a vast spectrum of items pasted and frequently concealed inside the work including x-rays of her pelvis ? reflecting the birth/death cycle. Unfortunately none of these works are currently available online.
In ?Scenes from a Marriage? she gives the viewer a glimpse of the agony found in abusive relationships. These stark ink sketches on paper show all the trauma of a woman bound by her own fears to a relationship based on pain and fear.
The artist is currently experimenting with surrealist works, corporate art and digitally manipulated photography. This is only a small sampling of her paintings, sketching, digital and photographic art works. Please feel free to contact her with any questions or critique. She is not attached to any galler
