Javier Saavedra
I was born In Mexico City in 1962, and I have lived here almost all my life, except during seven years in which I was in Europe, mainly in Spain and Italy.
I´ve been painting for the last 25 years.

I have always seen my painting work as a challenge and as a beautiful adventure.
The most exciting thing for me is to not know how will end each and every painting I may be working in.
All my life I have been pretty aware of not loosing that freshness and that sense of "risk" involved in the process, because almost always a painting needs to be at some point in the "throwing it to the garbage" stage before it can really become something surprising.... Like a Phoenix bird, each painting; Raising itself from it´s own ashes, and it has taken YEARS for me to get used to that fear of failure in between.

Many years ago I was influenced by the Mexican Muralism, and by the idea of art as a mean of expressing a given message.
Over the years I have been changing my point of view, and although I still appreciate and use pretty much the symbols and metaphors in my work, I currently think that the best qualities an artwork may have are precisely those which cannot be expressed by words, and so, when I paint, I´m mainly looking for finding in my way some "magic" within the work that can somehow touch some part of my inner being and feelings for hopefully make my life and experience more meaningfull, and hoping also that this feelings might be shared by other people as well.
A quite mysterious quality, the one I´m always trying to touch with my paintings.
So I guess my work is becoming more and more like a spiritual experience in itself.
