I am currently working on a series of head studies and landscapes, which are as a result of my trip to Pakistan recently; I was intrigued by the impressions on peoples faces each one tells a story of anguish and hurt which is hidden behind the happy face and I was impressed with the vibrant landscape of Pakistan and other countries I have visited .

Self-taught artist Mohammed Yasin Saddique, who has been painting since the age of 16, has allowed travel to inspire him in his art. His paintings of not only the artistic and cultural centers of Rome, Paris and New York but also Dubai City and Jelum, Pakistan, suggest an urban experience distilled down to basics: Saddique transforms the city into cubist grids invested with multilayered shading. Saddique’s cityscapes also suggest stained glass. Both opaque and crystalline, each visual interpretation lives within its own unique range of colors and moods--very much like cities themselves.
His current series of facial studies, influenced by an exploration of Pakistan, adds a primitivist style to his oeuvre. Saddique aims to capture “the story of anguish and hurt hidden behind a face, much as a city can reveal its history in the patterns Saddique uncovers. Mohammed Yasin Saddique’s unique and potent works are in private collections in England, Austria, Italy, Germany, America, France, Belgium, Indian, and Pakistan.(2006)

For a self-taught painter of just 30 years of age, Mohammed Yasin Saddique has generated an impressive body of artwork that includes portraits, nudes, landscapes, and cityscapes. Most of Saddique’s portraits are colorful, playful interpretations that often invoke the cubist tradition. Bold black boundary markers demarcate both sections of his painting and sections of his subjects, which suggest both depth and texture. His subjects emerge from the canvas as colorful patchwork quilts or paper maché composites.
Saddique’s portraits are arguably his most evocative works. To the sides of his subject’s head, Saddique will often include cross-sections of his model’s profile. Here, Saddique experiments with anthropomorphic shapes. Some viewers, for example, might discern an elephant’s face and trunk flanking Nadia’s face in his portrait of the same name. Interestingly—perhaps even tellingly—Saddique’s own portrait and that of his wife are strikingly different than his other portraits. The former are virtually black-and-white compositions. The faces of Saddique and his wife resemble white mannequin heads faintly tinged by yellows and reds. They are as works in progress or model faces to be molded sometime later into something new.
Saddique’s works can be found in private collections in various European countries, the United States, England, India, and Pakistan. Saddique lives and works in London and Pakistan. - Lou Caravella (2006)
