I was raised in Bogotá, Colombia where I grew up surrounded by my fathers collection of pre-Colombian art and pottery. Our summers were spent in a beautiful valley called Sibundoy, 1000 km south of Bogotá where indigenous tribes, the Ingas and Kametza still inhabit this region of Colombia today.
I was exposed to many cultures and art through my travels some of which I did with my father who took me along on his business trips throughout South and Central America as well as many other countries in Europe and Asia. I studied Design at the Polytechnic Institute in Milan, Italy where I lived and traveled every chance I had.
Due to circumstances in Colombia I came to North America, first to Miami, Florida where I lived for 4 years and began painting on a serious level participating in group shows while experimenting on different media and techniques.
I came to Toronto in June of 2004 where I have been more focused on establishing a body of work and have participated in exhibitions and festivals. I was represented by ACA Gallery last year but I am currently looking for other representation.
My exposure to so many cultures along with my architectural background, and most recently my exposure to Canadian Aboriginal art has inspired me to create similar forms with a modern and abstract language. Through my participation in festivals and exhibitions the feedback I have received has made me realize my work has elements that touch people of various cultural backgrounds. It has opened my eyes to the fact that regardless of the origin of the art there are common fundamentals that are shared by all.
