In these new works, he tries to create a kind of hum that resonates from the work when wildly disparate colors and forms suddenly click together. This happens at the instant of recognition when all elements are working together in syncronicity. The viewer works mentally with the composition, and pattern, piecing the image together. Their eye travels around the work led by strong design and spontaneously applied repetitions. The work vibrates, radiating from that still point called harmony. These images are saturated with vivid colors and patterns drawn from the Mexican borderlands of the southwestern United States. At their best, they express pure joy, and when combined with his style and serious, though not necessarily tragic subjects, the viewer feels the zing as he hits the bull's-eye.
