Quality & ProfessionalismQuality and professionalism play an important role in selling art and having repeat buyers. Ensuring your artwork is well described and has good quality images is a must.ContentWhat you write and how you describe yourself and your artwork is key to captivating an audience and a potential buyer. When writing about yourself and your work you should ask yourself these six basic questions: Who?, What?, When?, Where?, Why? and How?. Answering these questions up front gives your customer the information they need to make an informed decision about their purchase. It also lets your customer build affinity with you, which will increase the chance that they will make a purchase. Example BiographyMy name is John Doe, I have been creating artwork for 20 years and I am originally from Ely, Nevada but I now call San Francisco my home. I prefer to work with watercolor but I also dabble in oil and acrylic. I got my start in watercolor early on in my life when I was given my first watercolor set as a birthday gift. Since then my art has much improved and I have studied art extensively at San Francisco State University and have had many successful shows on campus. I like using watercolor because it of its gentle nature, and how it can be so subtle yet striking. Creating a piece of art for me is therapeutic and I am inspired by everyday beauty. The paragraph above is a basic biography, but it answers all six of the questions. These questions will help your customer understand and connect with you on a personal level. Your potential customers will get a feeling of who you are as an artist. In addition, when describing your artwork use these questions to help guide you in explaining a piece or portfolio to your audience. The benefit is that they will be able to see what passion and thought you put into a piece of artwork by your written narration of the significance of a particular piece or portfolio. QualityQuality of writing is vital to a good impression. If there are too many grammatical errors or the typeset is ALL IN CAPS your creditability as professional is diminished to a reader. The easiest way to overcome this is to use a word processor such as Microsoft Word when first probing an idea. In addition, proofreading what you’ve written, and having a friend proof read what you’ve written is also very beneficial. Microsoft Word is a great tool when writing; the program has wonderful features that allow you to spell check and grammar check your writing. The program will help cut down glaring spelling mistakes and reduce the number of grammatical errors. It is not a cure all, but it catches most mistakes. Proofreading is a great way to catch your own mistakes. The best way to proof read is to leave what you have written alone for a few hours or even a day. When you come back to it you might catch some errors and have new ideas on how to better say something. Having a friend proofread is a great way to polish your writing. Having someone else critique what you have to say gives you an idea of how a customer might respond to reading what you’ve written. A friend might also point out aspects of your work that you have never thought of and give you enriched content to add to your writing. |
