My mother was a painter, my brother is an artist in stained glass. I dabbled in both before discovering the magic of digital imaging. My interest in photography started when I was a child and matured through high school. But then college, job, career and family left no money or time for a personal darkroom, so I pursued other interests for more than 30 years. Then, before my first trip to Hawaii, I purchased a digital camera to record our family trip and I was hooked. I never could draw but, with the camera and computer, I could create the pictures that had eluded me before.
I begin each work with one or more digital photographs and/or sketches and then I blend, filter and tone until the picture that I want emerges. The work is then printed on matte papers to retain and enhance the textured effects. The larger the print, the more the effects can be seen.
I appreciate any and all critiques. I don't take them personally and many have been helpful in improving my work.
My mother succeeded in capturing the realism of the photograph with her brushes. I attempt to capture the feeling of the brushes with my computer.
I hope you enjoy seeing these images as much as I enjoy producing them.
